As a future educator, I find that motivation is my strength when meeting my students. When in search of my future career I did not label it as a “job”. I tried to view it as my “life’s calling”. Growing up my parents reminded me endlessly that anyone can obtain a job, but few rarely find their calling. I would like to influence students that see school as simply a nuisance and really show them that learning can be life changing and rewarding. The moment I realized the incredible impact an educator can have on a student occurred during my time spent in my program known as Ready, Set, Teach. I met my mentor Miss Sal who taught 3rd grade. The amount of effort she placed on her daily class activities was visible each and everyday. She created a safe and welcoming environment for students to not only learn, but also express their creativity. In my experience, a student’s accomplishments are a reflection of the support they receive from their educators and caretakers. Today many teachers are under-appreciated by society, sometimes our communities forget that educators are those providing wisdom to the next generation. This is the generation that will become great members of our society and change our great nation with the knowledge they grow up with. I find myself reflecting on these enduring teachers that provided me with the best life lesson, that is to always strive for more and to have high expectations for my future. My life's goal is to instill that same belief into my peers and students, that they are worth something and can reach their maximum potential regardless of gender, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background.
